Swine Flu and the Swine Flu Vaccine
Lynn Jennings, MD [medical doctor]
August 31, 2009
September has always signaled the end of summer vacation and the beginning of a new school year. In Michigan, where I grew up, the school year always began the week after Labor Day. (It also corresponded with the new fall lineup of shows on TV, three channels, no such thing as cable). As a physician, I am aware of the seasonal trends of illness. Within a few weeks of the start of the new school year, I could always count on the increase in sore throats, coughs and colds. When you put a large group of people (children) in close contact with one another, a lot of germs get spread around. And that brings me to the topic I would like to discuss, the H1N1 virus more commonly known as the "swine flu virus." This article was prompted by an evening web seminar that was presented by Dr. Sherri Tenpenny a few weeks ago. The information was startling. I decided that this information needed to be passed on.

Warning: Swine Flu Shot Linked to Killer Nerve Disease
Joseph Mercola, DO [medical doctor]
A warning that the swine flu vaccine has been linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the UK Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter. The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, was leaked to The Daily Mail, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins. It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine. GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.

Boost Immune System for Health: Swine Flu H1N1
Ralph K. Campbell, M.D.
August 21, 2009
The Montanan (Montana, USA) who died of H1N1 flu "also suffered other underlying medical conditions" (Missoulian, Aug. 7). The Montana state medical officer says, "Tragically, influenza viruses cause about 36,000 deaths each year, about 100 in Montana." It amazes me how the "about 36,000" figure turns up, year after year, either after a good match of virus strains with the current vaccine, or not. After the "pandemic" hysteria began, the predicted toll was 35,000. Soon, after a death of someone who tested positive for what was then called swine flu, the figure jumped to 36,000 and has held steady.Nonsense - people don't die from influenza. (Possibly, they could if a strain were to directly infect lung tissue.)

Serious Concern With Polio Vaccines
Randolph M. Howes, MD, PhD [medical doctor], plastic surgeon
August 22, 2009
Fear of vaccinations has progressively increased over the years, due in part, to the current epidemic of autism and the government requirement that pre-schoolers must now receive dozens of shots. Public officials try to downplay any risks and reassure parents that all vaccinations are safe. Unfortunately, the World Health Organization has issued a warning that the paralyzing disease, polio, may spread beyond Africa. Most shocking is the fact that it is being spread by a mutant of the vaccine itself.

Legal Immunity Set for Swine Flu Vaccine Makers
Joseph Mercola, DO [medical doctor]
(U.S.) Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius has not only given immunity to the makers of Tamiflu and Relenza for injuries stemming from their use against swine flu, she has granted immunity to future swine flu vaccines and "any associated adjuvants". The last time the government embarked on a major vaccine campaign against a new swine flu, thousands filed claims contending they suffered side effects from the shots. This time around, they will have no recourse. The 2006 Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act (the PREP Act) allows the DHHS Secretary to invoke almost complete immunity from liability for manufacturers of vaccines and drugs used to combat a declared public health emergency. The PREP Act removes the right to a trial jury unless a plaintiff can provide clear evidence of willful misconduct that resulted in death or serious physical injury -- and gets permission to sue from the DHHS Secretary.

Vaccines - Why Fear Sells
Sherri Tenpenny, DO
It's interesting how a discussion about vaccination can quickly become heated and sometimes even hostile. Would the same debate rage over an antibiotic or an antihypertensive medicine if there was evidence the drug was causing harm? When it becomes obvious that thousands have been injured by a drug such as Vioxx, it is removed from the market. We stop the use of drugs until they are proven safe. And we sue.

The Risks and Benefits of HPV Vaccination
Charlotte Haug, MD, PhD, MSc
Journal of American Medicine (JAMA). 2009;302(7):795-796.
When do physicians know enough about the beneficial effects of a new medical intervention to start recommending or using it? When is the available information about harmful adverse effects sufficient to conclude that the risks outweigh the potential benefits? If in doubt, should physicians err on the side of caution or on the side of hope? These questions are at the core of all medical decision making. It is a complicated process because medical knowledge is typically incomplete and ambiguous. It is especially complex to make decisions about whether to use drugs that may prevent disease in the future, particularly when these drugs are given to otherwise healthy individuals. Vaccines are examples of such drugs, and the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is a case in point.
